Now that you have been evaluating…….what have you learned about yourself? What have you decided to get rid of? Did you evaluate from where all of the thoughts, emotions and realities you hold originate? Before you renovate you have to become motivated. If you are participating in this self-renewal project you are probably somewhat motivated but renovation takes a lot of time, energy and resources. You may start off strong but the task will inevitably take its toll. Lets discuss ways to become and stay motivated.

The strongest catalyst for motivation is desperately wanting a change. It is even stronger than needing one. Needing change doesn’t always motivate us and it sometimes even stifles us. Often we are not motivated to change until we absolutely must. However when we want a change and can no longer live with the ‘status quo’, our motivation begins.

1. We can stay motivated by setting small goal or milestones to reach the big goal. Whether our mission is to lose weight, get rid of emotional baggage or accomplish a new achievement, the meal must not be devoured but consumed in small bites.

2. A reminder of the goal in full view, figuratively and literally. Whether it is a picture, a note or whatever triggers your desire to have results.

3. ( This one may surprise you) Don’t share your goal with too many people. Keep it on a ‘need to know’ basis. Besides people that are actively involved in helping you reach your goal, no one needs to be in on this. People have a way of knowingly or subconsciously sabotaging you and if you get off track, discouraging words can deflate your excitement.

4. Live in the moment. Try not to look too far ahead. It can be overwhelming. Enjoy each small victory and embrace the journey.

5. Set up a plan, put it in writing and sign it. Take yourself seriously. Set reminders on your phone or computer. Give yourself small rewards along the way. For every milestone, congratulate yourself. Most importantly, If you digress, forgive yourself and keep going.

  1. Yes motivation. That is an essential. How indeed can we ever move forward without motivation? A jump start reminds me of a boast from some other power source but as you so aptly phrased it, can actually come and no doubt needs to come from within. In this way outside catalysts can be kept to a minimum or deleted completely. I personally prefer that because then you become the driver of your own vehicle and better able to go where you see fit. It’s not that you may not need directions or assistance from time to time, but at least you can decide when and how. Let’s get moving!!! I love it.
